The President of the Republic presided at the award ceremony of the “2012 Pessoa Prize”, which was held in the Culturgest Auditorium, in Lisbon, on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of this trophy.

The President of the Republic travels to Strasbourg and Brussels from 11 to 13 June next, where he will hold meetings with the officers responsible for the European Institutions and address a speech at a plenary meeting of the European Parliament.

The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Governing Officers of the General Workers Trade Union Federation.

The President of the Republic presided at the XVIII Award Ceremony of the North-South Prize of the Council of Europe, and presented the prizes to Swiss-Italian Monika Hauser and to Pakistani Asma Jahangir, two individualities distinguished for their convictions and actions on behalf of and respect for the dignity of the human being.

The President of the Republic presided at the meeting of the Council of State, which had the following topic as its agenda: “Perspectives of the Post-Troika Portuguese Economy, within the framework of an Effective and Broadened Monetary and Economic Union”.

The President of the Republic addressed a message to the President of East Timor People’s Republic, Taur Matan Ruak, on the occasion of the celebrations of the National Day of his Country.

Following is the text of the message from President Cavaco Silva:

The President of the Republic received, in audience, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Erlan Idrissov.

The President of the Republic travelled to Monção County, where he visited the Curro House, viewing an exhibition of Alvarinho wines and of several regional products, and attended a presentation of the Minho Park – Northwest Peninsular Entrepreneurial Park.

The President of the Republic travelled to the County of Melgaço, where he visited the Peso Thermal Park attending a brief explanation on the quality of the thermal waters, after which he viewed the new facilities of the Thermal Baths.

President Cavaco Silva took part in the Dinner of the International Consultative Committee of the Bosch Group that was held in the Porto Stock Exchange Building, during which he delivered a speech.
