The Portuguese Diaspora Council is a non-profit association, created on December 26, 2012 with the Official Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic.

The President of the Republic is the Honorary President of the Portuguese Diaspora Council and the Minister of Foreign Affairs is the Honorary Vice-President.

The purpose of the Portuguese Diaspora Council is to strengthen relations between Portugal and its diaspora, Portuguese and Portuguese descendants (residents outside the country for more than three years), so that through their merit and influence they contribute to the universal affirmation of Portuguese values and culture, as well as for the permanent enhancement and strengthening of our country's reputation.

The main instrument of intervention by the Portuguese Diaspora Council is the ‘World Portuguese Network’ which involves a wide range of influential Portuguese people in four areas: Economy, Sciences, Culture and Citizenship.
