O Presidente da República falou, esta tarde, ao telefone com o Presidente Volodymyr Zelensky. Assegurou-o do contínuo e inabalável apoio de Portugal e do povo português à Ucrânia, tendo dado conta do sentimento largamente maioritário em Portugal de profunda admiração pela notável resiliência e coragem demonstradas pelo povo ucraniano.
O Presidente da República transmitiu o forte desejo de que uma paz abrangente, justa e duradoura, assente no respeito pela Carta das Nações Unidas, pelo direito internacional e pela soberania e integridade territorial da Ucrânia, possa ser alcançada muito em breve, bem como o apoio à Ucrânia no seu processo de adesão à UE.
O Presidente Zelensky agradeceu o forte apoio de Portugal à Ucrânia e a reafirmação da sua continuidade, sublinhando a importância de garantias de segurança fortes e de toda ajuda que possa ser dada, incluindo no quadro da sua reconstrução. Agradeceu o apoio ao processo de adesão à UE e saudou as excelentes relações bilaterais e o caloroso acolhimento à larga comunidade ucraniana em Portugal.
The President of the Republic spoke by phone this afternoon with President Volodymyr Zelensky. He assured him of the continued and strong support of Portugal and the Portuguese people to Ukraine, conveying to him the widely shared sentiment in Portugal of profound admiration for the remarkable resilience and courage of the Ukrainian people.
The President of the Republic also expressed the strong hope that a comprehensive, just and lasting peace, grounded in respect for the United Nations Charter, international law, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, can be achieved very soon, as well as Portugal’s support to Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
President Zelensky thanked Portugal for its strong support to Ukraine and for reaffirming that it will continue. He underlined the importance of strong security guarantees and of further assistance that can still be provided, including in the context of the country’s reconstruction. He also expressed gratitude for the support for Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union and praised the excellent bilateral relations, as well as the warm welcome given to the large Ukrainian community in Portugal.
