Decree-Law 20-A / 2016 of 27 April

Dignifying the celebrations each year of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities requires that all the organs of sovereignty come together to ensure that the official ceremonies engage with Portuguese citizens, both the residents of the national territory and the Portuguese communities spread around the world.

This decree-law strengthens the mechanisms needed for that revitalisation of the aforementioned June 10 celebrations by establishing appropriate coordination between the President of the Republic, who defines its form and organisation, and the Government, which collaborates in them, through the services reporting to it.

Therefore:
Pursuant to the terms of Article 198, paragraph 1 a) of the Constitution, the Government decrees the following:

Article 1
Object

This decree-law establishes the institutional framework and articulation for the organisation of the celebrations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities.

Article 2
Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities

The Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities is celebrated annually on June 10 in Portugal and amongst the Portuguese communities abroad.

Article 3
Organisation of the celebrations

The celebrations are organised annually by the President of the Republic in conjunction with the Government and the services reporting to it.

Article 4
Venue of the celebrations

The venue for the celebrations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities shall be in such place as is designated each year by the President of the Republic.

Article 5
Budget for the celebrations

1 – The expenditure arising from the implementation of the present decree-law shall be met from adequate appropriations to be included in the budget of the Presidency of the Republic.

2 - The authorisation of the expenditure referred to in the preceding paragraph shall be exercised in accordance with the powers of the organs of the Presidency of the Republic, under the terms of Law 7/96 of 29 February and Decree-Law 28-A/96 of April 4, as amended by Decree-Law 288/2000 of November 13.

Article 6
Administrative support

1 - The administrative support required for the organisation of the celebrations of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities shall be provided by the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic.
2 - The services reporting to the Government shall cooperate with the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic when requested to do so by the Government.

Article 7
Repeal

Decree-Law 51/92 of 11 April is hereby repealed.

Article 8
Entry into force

This decree-law shall come into force on the day following that of its publication.
